Richard (Ric) Washington

Born in St. Louis, Missouri

Lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia

Richard (Ric) Washington is an Atlanta-based artist working in painting, printmaking, and mixed media. He holds a BFA in Printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute. His practice is grounded in abstraction, using organic materials and layered processes to explore transformation, memory, and presence.

Drawing from a background in graphic design, his work balances structure and spontaneity. Paint and material are poured, pushed, and built up over time, allowing each piece to evolve through action and response. Forms emerge in flux—shifting, breaking down, and re-forming—creating surfaces that feel both constructed and discovered.

His rose petal works extend this process by incorporating preserved organic material tied to personal history, embedding memory directly into the work. Across his practice, Washington creates objects that carry physical weight and quiet intensity, inviting reflection and open interpretation.

He is the Gallery Director of the Jack Sinclair Gallery at the ArtsXchange in East Point, Georgia, where he curates exhibitions and supports a broad community of artists.
